REA’s May Encore Auction: Historic Baseball Card Sets & Rare Memorabilia

Robert Edward Auctions has opened the gates to a sports collector’s paradise with its May Encore auction, presenting a whopping 3,600+ lots of sports memorabilia ranging from enchanting vintage baseball card sets to one-of-a-kind rare collectibles. This grand event kicked off on a Thursday, setting the stage for ten days filled with exhilarating bidding wars and the chance to own a piece of sports history.

For baseball enthusiasts and memorabilia connoisseurs, the auction is a goldmine of treasures dating back to the early days of the sport. Among the early stars of the show are a T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder card hailing from 1909-1911, boasting a scarce Uzit back, and a Ty Cobb rookie card from the coveted 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series, both sure to make collectors’ hearts race with excitement.

The auction doesn’t stop there but also features esteemed vintage baseball sets like the complete 1957 Topps Set and the nearly intact 1958 Topps set. Additionally, high-grade cards from the 1950s Bowman and Topps sets, including rookie cards of baseball legends such as Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax, are up for grabs. As a cherry on top, the auction offers a complete set break of the iconic 1951 Bowman set, a true gem for the avid collector.

Venturing beyond just cards, the auction also showcases remarkable memorabilia pieces that add a layer of historical significance. Highlights in this category include a ticket stub from the illustrious 1957 NFL Championship Game and a charming 1920 Real Photo Postcard featuring the Harvard football team that graced the Rose Bowl that year, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of sports glory.

REA President Brian Dwyer’s excitement for the auction’s lineup is evident as he commends the exceptional quality of the lots following the triumphant $15.4 million spring sale. Dwyer expresses the enthusiasm among collectors for the premium items on offer, reflecting the deep-rooted appreciation for sports memorabilia in the collector community.

For those eager to get in on the action, the auction remains open for bids until May 19 on the REA website. With each item starting at a modest bid of $10, this event not only serves as a premier opportunity for collectors to enrich their collections with rare finds and high-end memorabilia but also as a tribute to the rich legacy of sports collectibles, preserving history one bid at a time.
