Topps and Disney Expand Trading Card Partnership

Topps, a division of Fanatics Collectibles, has struck a groundbreaking deal with Disney Consumer Products to expand their existing partnership. This new agreement grants Topps global rights to create trading cards featuring beloved characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. A first for Topps, this collaboration marks their foray into the worldwide distribution of Marvel trading cards.

Scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025, the highly anticipated Topps Finest X-Men ’97 will kick off Topps’ Marvel collectible trading cards. This launch coincides with a resurgence of interest in the X-Men franchise and signifies a significant milestone for Topps in their venture into the global distribution of Marvel cards.

In addition to physical cards, this expanded partnership covers digital trading cards for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars franchises on a global scale. While digital collectibles have been previously released via Disney Collect! and Marvel Collect! apps, this agreement substantially broadens Topps’ physical product offerings, particularly within the United States.

Paul Gitter, Executive Vice President of Global Brand Commercialization at Disney Consumer Products, expressed excitement about the increased collaboration with Topps, stating, “We’re thrilled to officially expand our relationship with Topps to bring storytelling from across our brands to card collecting enthusiasts around the world.”

David Leiner, President of Trading Cards at Fanatics Collectibles, shared his enthusiasm for the strengthened partnership, emphasizing Topps’ dedication to enhancing the fan experience. Leiner highlighted their joint commitment to innovation and fan engagement, citing the success of Star Wars cards, including the recent release of Star Wars Chrome by Topps.

While Topps has a history of producing trading cards in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, this new agreement paves the way for global expansion, with a notable focus on the U.S. market and beyond. By combining Disney’s storytelling prowess with Topps’ collectible trading card expertise, the partnership aims to deliver cutting-edge products that resonate with fans worldwide.

Collectors can anticipate a diverse array of new trading cards celebrating the enchantment of Disney, the imagination of Pixar, the thrill of Marvel superheroes, and the epic saga of Star Wars. This collaboration is set to introduce fresh designs, unique collectibles, and immersive experiences to the trading card hobby, creating a new era for enthusiasts to discover and cherish iconic characters and stories from entertainment history.
